Your lack of sleep? Means you have the opportunity to make you gain weight. Yes, lack of sleep not only can reduce the immune system, but also can make your body into a fat or obese. This is demonstrated by the experts Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, United States, that someone less sleep tend to consume more calories, making them easier too fat.
The study involved 17 healthy young men and women. They were followed for 8 nights. They were divided into two groups, half of the participants were placed into groups with normal sleep time (control group), while the rest are placed in groups with bedtime only two-thirds (2/3) alone (Group lack of sleep).
During the study, all participants are allowed to eat as much as they want. And the results showed that participants who are in the category of sleep-deprived group on average consume 549 extra calories per day. The sleep-deprived group also burn less calories during the activity compared to control group.
The researchers say that the lack of sleep is correlated with increased levels of leptin and ghrelin levels. Both were very influential on a person's appetite. These changes are possible due to excessive eating rather than the cause of overeating, said experts whose research is published in the Journal of the AHA (American Heart Association).
Lack of sleep is a problem most people today, carrying approximately 28 percent of adults are now deprived of sleep, or just 6 hours per day. Researchers noted, although this study shows that lack of sleep can be an important cause of obesity, but this is only a small study that has yet to prove a causal relationship.
